Greetings! I am Marceil and I grew up in rural midwest Iowa. My parents, siblings and myself lived at the top of a rolling hill in an old farmhouse surrounded by lots of farm land and open space filled with trees to climb, creeks to wade through and wildflowers to gather.
I was the youngest of 4 with my closest sibling being quite a bit older than I. This meant, while my parents were working and my brothers and sister were with their friends, I spent most of my time alone. I did not view this as a hindrance. Quite the contrary was true for me. I loved spending time out in nature with my dogs, horses, chickens, wild rabbits and other various creatures. I was enthralled with exploring the countryside, discovering how it changed from fall to winter, from dawn to dusk.
One of my fondest memories from childhood was my Mother’s gigantic and flourishing garden. Each evening, I was instructed which vegetables to choose to be a part of the family’s meal. I would head out back with my loving dog, Taffy, by my side, just as the golden sun was setting over the western hills to tiptoe around the carrot tops and potato vines to gather the blooming harvest. The garden that my Mom so amazingly cultivated, mostly from seeds, was filled with beautiful organic produce.
When I was 13 years old, my family made a drastic move to the beaches of Jacksonville, Florida. Initially, it was very difficult coming from a small town in Iowa to a cool little beach in Florida. I felt like a 'fish out of water' :-). As a teenager feeling somewhat 'lost', I found myself seeking comfort once again with nature by spending hours with my feet in sand and sea. Exploring this new world was both surprising and fascinating. The scent of the air, the texture of the sand at low tide, the ever changing colors of the water and the salt life creatures all provided a tremendous sense of connection and groundedness. What a gift in so many wonderful ways!
I knew there was healing love there in sea, land and air. I felt it in my soul. And I intrinsically knew if I felt it, then others could too.
This is when & where I fell in love with nature and in turn learned to love myself not in spite of but because of the ups and downs life brings forward.
Growing up in the midwest and the beach allowed me to discover and appreciate an uncomplicated and natural way of living. This created the foundation for my life.
